I often wonder where the busy summer months go and of course in the winter we do slow down, but ever so slightly as there is always so much to catch up on.
So what do wedding planners get up to in the winter!
I thought it would be a nice idea to write a little blog post about what we have been up to and give our readers a little insight into our lives.
During the winter months we are dealing with many enquiries.
We are answering emails, working on quotes, booking new weddings in and also have our lovely clients flying in to see us. We organise venue viewing schedules, food tastings, hair and make up trials and supplier meetings for them in order they can confirm which suppliers they wish to book for their weddings.
We also do other things!
Recently I was invited to be a speaker at the Exotic Wedding Planning Conference in Barcelona. I was selected as one of the top 12 wedding planners in Europe and was working alongside some fabulous names in the industry including Bernadette from the UKAWP and Kylie from the UK Wedding Planning Academy and some hugely sassy wedding planners including Matthew Oliver and very stylish Italian wedding planners that put my black slacks and the natural make up look to shame!
It is difficult to review this conference as although our team did really well, the organisers did not show up. We tried our best to put on a great panel discussion, and a think tank, but my overall impression of this conference was not great.
It was a shame for the delegates as it was a poor show by the conference organisers and put the panel into a very compromising situation affecting their reputations.
The saving grace, person, of this day was the brilliant toastmaster, Jonathan Waterman, he did an utterly amazing job of ‘keeping the show on the road’ and for this we cannot thank him enough.
I had a lovely time though and was delighted to be treated to a lunch by the Barcelona Tourist Board and to network with not only the team, but also some fabulous wedding planners and wedding related businesses from all over Europe.
So back I trotted to Marbella, to the glorious blue skies we are so enjoying at the moment, and I have been busy working on our first Creative Bride Workshop which will be hosted here in February.
We are hugely excited and will be publishing details of this shortly. If you are interested in coming to Marbella, in February, for a fabulous wedding creative workshop, do email us so we can put you on our mailing list and send you the details when they are ready. It will be a first come first served basis and we expect it to sell out quickly as there are limited spaces.
We were also very excited to be featured on Smashing the Glass, a brilliant website dedicated to Jewish Weddings, you can read all about us on their recent blog post, beautifully put together by Karen. If you are considering a Jewish Wedding in Marbella, please do contact us, we love them!
It really has been a difficult year for us here in wedding world, as we had the terrible accident of David Toms, a popular wedding photographer, who suffered such awful injuries he is now a quadriplegic. You can read more about this on a previous blog post I wrote when I was trying to come to terms with his situation he now faces and how we can help.
This month we look forward to the David Toms Gala Fundraising evening on the 26th November, where all the wedding world here are coming together to create an event in the hope we can raise as much money as possible to help David.
It has been brilliantly organised by Lisa from Bella Weddings and Scott from Sunshine Weddings who are two very close friends to David and we are all going along to support this event. David’s fundraising page can be found on Go Fund Me.
We have also just had more tragic news to hit our wedding world community of the death of one of our very talented musicians. He was recently married to one of our popular singers we use a lot for weddings and from what we understand at the moment, suffered a heart attack. Shock waves are still going through our community at the moment as we try to piece together what has happened. There are no words we can send to our friend at the moment but we are here and thinking of her and ready to support her.
Finally life goes on and this December we will be celebrating the wonderful big birthday of Lizzie Marriage, I won’t share which big birthday! But Lizzie has organised a few celebrations so we are very much looking forward to joining her to drink lots of cocktails! I am always convinced Lizzie dropped from the skies disguised as an angel and she has helped me through some very tough times in my life including the death of my dearly beloved father.
I will post more insights into what we get up to here in the winter and update you on how our David Toms Gala night goes.
In the meantime I send you all lots of love and do make each day special, life can change at anytime and it is a very precious thing x
