With over 300 days of glorious sunshine each year in Marbella’s micro climate we are fortunate enough to be one of the most popular holiday and wedding destinations in Europe.

Marbella is synonymous with glamour and glitz, it is a mini California and once you step away from the widely publicised bling you will find one of the most sophisticated, stylish, beautiful towns in Europe.

Marbella town is famous for the Plaza de los Naranjos, and its charming winding streets around the Old Town brimming with quaint shops stocking beautiful clothes, shoes, jewellery and artisan products nestled alongside many fabulous restaurants.

As you stroll along the beach side promenade you will also find many restaurants, charming hotels, fabulous beaches and chiringuitos and there is nothing nicer than ordering a gin and tonic or una cana, then passing the time watching the world go by because, here in Spain, we are very good at this! Here, in Marbella, there is always plenty of people watching to do!

Many couples flock to Andalucia searching for their dream wedding location so here is a little summary of what is actually available here in this beautiful town and what styles of weddings are available to you as well of course fabulous food!

Firstly you need to consider the following when thinking about hosting your wedding in Marbella.

Are you just looking for a day only venue such as a hotel, beach location, slightly inland in a more mountain rustic style setting or are you wishing to host your wedding in a private villa?

There are pros and cons to each.

Firstly I will start with a day only venue.

Hosting your wedding in a day only venue doesn’t tie you into a villa booking or having to spend too much time with your loved ones, you can stay somewhere separately, tucked away from family and guests, and just rock up for your wedding day.

A day only venue also means you are not watching your wedding being set up, and dismantled, you can just arrive, look stunning, have the most awesome time then leave!

You don’t have the additional cost of hiring a large enough villa to accommodate your guests, as well as your wedding, and you don’t have to worry about who you choose to stay with you. Some day only venues have a hire fee or a minimum spend and also have wonderful catering packages to suit most clients needs, many are already equipped to host a wedding and will offer many incentives and extras included in their wedding services.

If you wish to include other events, which are popular with destination weddings, you may wish to organise a welcome evening or post wedding party. There are many options available to you, one of the wonderful restaurants in Marbella or chilling the day after in a beach restaurant.

Hosting your wedding in a private villa.

This style of wedding is hugely popular but do bear in mind the following.

If you are hiring a villa during the main holiday season they may insist on a Saturday to Saturday turnaround especially if they are a popular holiday let. Saturdays are the turnaround days for holiday lettings.

There are a few villas and cortijos that cater especially for weddings and are flexible on this, they will offer a minimum of a 3 day hire and accommodate more turnovers, i,e, mid week weddings and weekend weddings. Midweek weddings will normally be cheaper hire rates.

You will be able to completely tailor your wedding how you want it, everything will be bought in by your wedding planner from catering to staging, lighting, decor, etc and built from the ground up.

You will also be able to host different events at your villa or combine external events with events at the villa, for example, host a welcome drinks outside of the villa in a beautiful location so guests don’t see your wedding location beforehand. Host your wedding at the villa and then a post wedding casual gathering the day after in the shape of a pool party, BBQ or paella style gathering.

The disadvantages are you will see your wedding being set up and broken down. Some clients have found it difficult being with their family and guests for a few days and want some solitude, there are always ways around this of course such as bolting for the afternoon to the beach or finding a quite tapas bar to just chill!

A few other facts about hosting a wedding in Marbella.

Marbella has a noise curfew, it is a town with many built up areas around the wedding venues, private estates, apartments, etc and therefore all music after midnight must be inside and under 80 decibels. If you are hosting your wedding in a venue then they will be able to offer you an interior space to continue the party. If you are hosting your wedding in a villa then you must check you have enough space inside to continue your celebrations. Some venues have applied for licences to extend the music outside until 2am such as the Marbella Club Villa Del Mar.

There are also a few venues that are exempt from the noise pollution due to their location and if you wish to find out more you can contact us.

All the venues and our private villa weddings, in Marbella, offer exceptional catering services whether it be provided by the venue or one of the caterers we recommend and work with. If you are a foodie then you will have no problem finding the perfect catering for your event and just so you know we eat all the canapes! If there is wedding cake even better!

My best advice to my wedding couples is start with the what you can’t not have at a wedding, this is a beautiful ceremony followed by great food and drinks and entertainment. Without this you don’t have a fabulous wedding.

You must bear in mind all the extras after this such as a really good photographer to capture all the wonderful memories you are making, if you can afford it video is beautiful and a lovely memento to share with generations after your wedding day.

I am also of course famous for and partial to lighting, fairy lights and candles tick my boxes everytime for a wedding and after this with what you have left in your wedding budget we can add the florals and styling, all the lovely things that make your wedding personal to you.

Soon I will do a blog post about hosting weddings inland in towns and cities such as Ronda, Malaga and Seville, three more of our popular destination wedding locations but I hope for now you have enjoyed reading about what is available to you in the Marbella area.

I would like to thank the following photographers for sharing these images of my fabulous weddings with me.
