Last October I was contacted by the most charming Mother of the Bride about hosting her daughter´s wedding here in Spain.  The family live in Canada but the grooms family are based in Sitges, so this was the area they wished to host their family wedding.

We narrowed down the venues and dates available eventually settling on the stunning location of the Casa Del Mar, an exclusive Mediterranean estate overlooking the sea.

After securing the venue the planning begun with Petra organising catering, entertainment, florals and all the details.

I can never contain my excitement when we receive professional photos of our work 🙂

Marijana contacted me last year to hire us for the styling and decoration of her wedding to the rather dashing Roberto.

Now this wedding was going to be held in a fabulous Castle in Carmona.  I was sold!

Carmona is one of my favourite towns in Spain so I jumped at the chance to organise another visit to this magical town and, a bonus, spend time here creating a beautiful wedding.  This town holds such a special place in my heart as I was fortunate enough to take my beloved father there for his 80th birthday weekend, not knowing he would never make his 81st, special times and wonderful memories.

The Wedding with the Tiniest Car Ever!!

Some weddings have certain elements about them that will always be etched in your memories and this fabulous wedding of Niamh and Andrew is one of them.

Actually for quite a few reasons, of which some they have no idea about, but firstly because of their tiny vintage 500 fiat car they hired for their wedding.   For me, it just made their day, it was fun, cute and just probably the most unwise choice for a wedding car but gosh did we love it and doesn’t it make for some really great photos!   (more…)

Cake Trend, Drip Cakes, Love them!

This week I was alerted to the latest cake trend by Sweet Things by Fi. I had seen a few of this style drip cake starting to pop up on my feeds, one in particular was from the Crumby Bakery based in Godalming, Surrey who shared a rather impressive photo of their drip cakes.

Nailed It, be warned!

Here goes, probably sticking my neck out but really cannot warn our couples enough about wedding cakes and this is an actual from one of the weddings here this year,
a classic nailed it.

So advice, warning, whatever should I call it?!

I was involved in this wedding as the stylist and designer and worked with the bride on many elements of her wedding day.

There was a lot of attention to details, colours and design from the stunning outfits to the florals.  We created beautiful paddle fans and a lovely Hand of Fatima table seating plan, had all the accessories to style up the cake table including stands and blush sequin table cover.

But, and a big but. I was not involved in the cake making decision.

On the day the planner was having kittens and whipped me down to the kitchens to show me the cake which had been dutifully copied by the catering company from the bride’s photo sent to them.
There were no words to be honest with what was presented to me, it was a huge slimey pulsating mess of almost quite neon colours and was so huge it would not fit on the pretty pink cake stand we had bought to present it.  There was no way it was going to blend nicely with the blush sequin table cover our bride had hired, all I could do was pop in her cake topper and wonder what the outcome was going to be.

So my advice, if you want a beautiful wedding cake book a professional cake designer and don’t rely on the catering company to create the cake of your dreams, you could be in for an unpleasant surprise.

We all know it often comes down to budgets and if you think the catering company is capable of creating a masterpiece then of course this will save you a cost of approx 500 euros which a professional cake maker would charge to create something as beautiful as the above photo.

I would certainly recommend asking to see photos of previous cakes the caterers have made and perhaps photos of what was actually requested and the outcome before you commit to letting anyone other than a reputable and professional cake maker make your dream cake.

I am not going to name or shame just warn potential couples, check out the cakes!

Trending Black Wedding Cakes

January 18th, 2015 Posted by Blackboards for weddings, Wedding Cakes in Spain, Wedding Signs Spain, Wedding Trends for 2015 0 thoughts on “Trending Black Wedding Cakes”

We thought we would start this week off with our love of black wedding cakes which is taking the wedding cake world by storm at the moment along with beautiful cakes with calligraphy writing on.

The love of using blackboards for wedding signs continues to be used in most of our weddings we create and we have become rather famous for our beautifully handwritten masterpieces thanks to Isabel at Sparkle and Dash who creates all our wonderful handwritten signs, beautifully designed table seating plans and wedding stationery.

Isabel has now launched her own company, Sparkle and Dash, so do hop over to see more of Izzi’s work on her Facebook page.

It seems this trend is not going away and is being incorporated even more into weddings, being translated to cake designs and we love it!

We thought we would share some fabulous black wedding cake inspirations with you taken from Pinterest and also sent to us by Sweet Things by Fi as we work on our wedding designs.

It takes a brave bride to choose this style cake but what a statement it would make and such fun to style up for your wedding day.

Wedding Cake Designer, Sweet Things By Fi, opens her first cake boutique in Gibraltar

May 19th, 2013 Posted by Cupcakes, Wedding Cakes in Spain, Wedding Shop in Marbella, Wedding Suppliers on the Costa Del Sol 0 thoughts on “Wedding Cake Designer, Sweet Things By Fi, opens her first cake boutique in Gibraltar”

What can I say other than I am so proud of Fi and her latest achievement of opening her first gorgeous designer cake shop, Sweet Things By Fi, in Gibraltar.

Fi´s shop is a true reflection of her personal style and is a delightful piece of shabby chic heaven and much more importantly filled with gorgeous cakes!

So much thought and design has gone into this beautifully presented shop.

I have been privileged to have been slightly involved having been sent wallpaper samples to look at, colour swatches, kitchen tile samples and watched Fi as she transformed pieces of furniture with beautifully chosen paint colours and seen her strive through what seemed mountains of paperwork to finally open the doors to present a beautiful showroom to showcase her work and host clients.

I feel like Fi´s surrogate mother so I am bursting at the seams with pride as I have had watched Fi´s huge talents along with determination start this business from scratch to becoming one of the most talented cake designers here in Spain.  I have to mention at this point the continuing support of her fabulous hubby, Clark, who has been a mainstay in supporting Fi in her business and been an absolute rock throughout.

I fear I maybe banned from visiting her cake shop due to the fact I steal her cakes, I am sure there will be some sort of Laura alarm system in place shortly attached to every cupcake :(!

Here is wishing Fi every success and if you wish to get in contact with Fi please visit her webpage Sweet Things By Fi.
The gorgeous photos were taken by Marea Thompson of Lucky Girl Weddings and do hop over to Marea´s website too for some wonderful eye candy or to see more of Fi´s shop hop over to Marea´s blog.

Icecreams & Magical Garden Wedding at the Marbella Club

November 8th, 2012 Posted by Delightful details, Destination Weddings, Fabulous Florals, Fairytale Weddings, Our Weddings, Weddding Photographers in Spain, Wedding Cakes in Spain, Wedding Venues in Spain 0 thoughts on “Icecreams & Magical Garden Wedding at the Marbella Club”

As I sit here tonight watching a huge storm raging across Marbella, I am cosy and warm enjoying looking at all the wonderful images we are still being sent of our weddings this year by the hugely talented photographers we work with.
After our very busy season, nothing is better than being curled up and ooohing and ahhhing over our weddings we have worked so hard on.
Meticulously planned, delighted clients, glorious sunny days, fabulous florals and all the individual details that made that wedding unique.
Every eventuality has to be thought about beforehand and the organisation and creativity that goes into our weddings before the actual day is enormous.
Plan b´s to plan z´s and what if´s are all accounted for before the big day arrives.
I always breath a sigh a relief on the actual wedding day as all the work has been done.  It is just a matter of setting everything up and putting all the plans into action.
Occasionally we might get the odd surprise, recently one of our make up artists had a car crash on the way to a wedding in the rain, it was quickly resolved by the ever calm Carla.  Luckily our make up artist was fine but we were all shaken up as she is pregnant.
Our September wedding we are showcasing today, thanks to the wonderful photos sent to us by David Toms, was held at the Encarnacion Church in Marbella followed by a fantastic reception at the Marbella Club in the Villa Del Mar.
The wedding theme was based on a Secret Garden, the details were gorgeous from keys unlocking Secret Garden menus, beautifully designed and created by Anoulka, to the stunning trees that adorned the tables, complete with fairy lights and hanging votives.
The stunning Secret Garden cake table was created by Sweet Things By Fi and involved five hours of work with me helping Fi style the table, using mosses, flowers and wooden tree stumps.  Fi was very lucky no cakes or cake pops went missing but I was all too aware the whole process was being videoed so was behaving myself 🙂
The whole of the Villa Del Mar was dressed with beautiful floral displays, the gardens were lit with a magical twinkle, chandeliers and uplighters, the entertainment was fantastic, a wonderful day was had by all.
Our thanks to David Toms for these wonderful photos, without these fantastic images we would not be able to share our weddings with you, unless it was with my iphone on Instagram!
Our congratulations to Sophie and Chris on their fabulous wedding here in Marbella and my thanks to my very hard working team that worked for many man hours to make sure every detail was covered and this wedding was a success, Carla, Paloma, Anoulka and Cindy x
