I love the summer mornings here in Spain when you know the day is going to be a hot one, it has a magical quality in the air before the heat sets in. People scurry around getting things done before it gets too hot and this of course involves buying bread and stopping for a cafe!
This year has been quite kind to us, yes it is hot here and I have spent the summer with wet hair and constantly dabbing myself down but I can’t say I have suffered extreme heat apart from an August wedding in Seville!
Audrey and Akbar arrived at Malaga the evening before their wedding with their family and friends. I was super excited to finally meet with them as Fiona and I had planned their wedding without them visiting beforehand. They completely trusted us to make their dreams come true whilst they were back at home in Canada! We met, had a ceremony rehearsal in their hotel room with lots of secret whispers going on with their friends as they had quite a few surprises in store for them and then just ticked the final things off our lists. Audrey and Akbar were dream clients, I loved them.
Preparations were well and truly underway with the brilliant Hair by Jazmin and all the girls, being French, looked super stylish and chic.
Audrey is French and met Akbar on a beach, they fell in love, he moved to France and learnt the language, then they both moved to Canada, many of their friends and family had also travelled from France, as well as Canada, to join them in the celebration of their marriage.
They had seen a wedding online at the Jardin Botanico in Malaga photographed by Pedro Bellido and had fallen in love with the beautiful natural surroundings, they had also found me and loved my work so got in touch to ask if we could create this wedding for them as it was their dream.
Their friends created the most brilliant ceremony for them with such a fun reference the whole time to the Beatles who Akbar totally loves, one was the celebrant and another played the guitar kindly lent to him by Jesus, our fabulous Spanish guitar player who serenaded the ceremony and cocktail hour.
After a brilliant ceremony their guests enjoyed a cocktail hour hosted by Sana Catering, cool drinks and delicious canapes were circulated as guests mingled and enjoyed their surroundings and I admired all their beautiful dresses. The guests were mainly French after all and I loved the fact that most of them were in well fitted shift dresses, they all looked totally put together, super stylish and not squeezed into unsuitable clothing!
This gorgeous venue really does have some amazing photographic backdrops, it is a photographers dream to work in I can imagine!
I designed their wedding table to compliment the surroundings and we added lemons, real plants in terracotta pots, small cacti, gold tealights and simple candles in glassware. Each napkin was decorated with a nametag and foliage tied with string, it all worked beautifully and later in the evening looked magical. Anais Floristerias were brilliant as always creating my visions in my head!
As darkness fell, the beautiful lighting started to come into play, it was truly magical and the guests were sitting under a sky filled with fairy lights, my favourite thing ever and cannot live without them!!! The dinner and dancing areas were just stunning thank you to Silvia and her team at Marbella Parties. After a wonderful meal provided by Sana and many brilliant speeches of which I understood none as were all in French! the party started hosted by the brilliant DJ Scott who got the party rocking.
It is my deepest shock though to learn just under 2 weeks ago Scott passed away in his sleep, I believe from an Asthma attack.
I will dedicate this blog post and a few more wedding blog posts of the work we completed together over the past few months before his untimely death at such a young age of only 43. I hope the posts will serve as testimonials of his brilliant work, and memories of the funniest, kind and hard working man. Scott left behind his son, there has been a Go Fund Me page set up to not only manage the immediate costs of his repatriation to Ireland but also a trust fund for his little boy. If you wish to donate you can do here.
Wishing Audrey and Akbar a lifetime of happiness and here is Akbar’s wonderful testimonial left on my Facebook page.
“From start to finish Laura and her team helped create one of the most memorable moments of our lives. Even without meeting in person, we felt so confident in her abilities to deliver a beautiful wedding, and boy did she ever! Laura has such a strong eye for decor which made our venue come together, and is very well networked with great vendors. We highly recommend Laura and her team, personable and professional.
Thank you so much again!!”
I would also like to thank Pedro Bellido for so many wonderful images, it has been hard to choose them for this blog post and to all the brilliant suppliers who support me and rock up again and again for my weddings, you are all amazing!
